Domestic Argument Leads to Aggravated Assault and Battery Charges

On August 7, 2019, at around 9:50 pm, Cape Coral Police Officers were dispatched to a disturbance on SW 48th Ter. Officers were told that there was a lot of blood and the male had cut himself.

When officers arrived, they spoke with the victim. The victim told officers that she and her boyfriend, Gary Steven Rasmussen, were arguing over Rasmussen cooking chicken because he was too intoxicated.

During the argument, the victim was on her knees begging him to stop cooking. Rasmussen knocked the contents of the counter onto the ground. A pan was knocked off of the counter and hit the victim in the head causing a laceration. Rasmussen saw that she was bleeding, grabbed a knife and began to cut his left arm. The victim told Officers that Rasmussen “kind of lunged” at her with the knife and she was in fear for her life.

Rasmussen was transported to Cape Coral Hospital for treatment. Once he was treated and released, he was transported to the Lee County Jail. Rasmussen was charged with Battery and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
