Nearly 120 children were treated to a free back-to-school shopping trip courtesy of the Cape Coral Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 33.
The event, held on August 2nd, allowed officers to spend positive one-on-one time with Cape Coral children whose families are experiencing some financial struggles. This is the second annual back-to-school event hosted by the organization, which represents active and retired men and women of the Cape Coral Police Department. Last year’s event helped 80 children in Cape Coral receive the school supplies they needed for the year.
For school children of all ages, the program provided participating students with $200 to spend at Target. Students met police escorts at the store where they purchased supplies and other necessities, and then proceeded to a pizza party hosted by the organization at Il’ Primo. The program reinforces the ideas of sharing and giving, and promotes the idea that role models of all ages are crucial to the development of our youth.
“We are grateful that Cape Coral FOP Lodge 33 was able to sponsor the shopping trip again this year,” said Sergeant Paul Blanchard, President of Cape Coral FOP Lodge 33. “Supporting the children of our community is a top priority and coincides with our initiative to encourage positive relationships between residents and police officers.”
