Cape Coral Police arrested a woman on a slew of charges after she crashed her vehicle, fled the scene, crashed her vehicle again and fled officers on foot.
On July 8th, 2019, at approximately 7:15 pm, CCPD Patrol officers responded to a hit and run crash at the 600 block of Del Prado Boulevard South, in front of Cape Coral Hospital. Dispatch advised a white Chrysler SUV had rear-ended another vehicle at high speed, then fled southbound. The Chrysler then attempted to turn into the Del Prado Mall located at 1402 Del Prado Boulevard South. It failed to make this turn, losing control and crashing into the marquee sign at the parking lot entrance.
Several witnesses saw Nhaima Rivera (W/F, DOB: 12-30-84) exit the vehicle and attempt to leave the scene. The initial officer arrived on scene, and Rivera immediately fled on foot upon seeing the officer. She ran into traffic and was almost struck, and refused orders to get on the ground. Rivera instead advanced on the officer while screaming obscenities, and the officer had to utilize his Taser to detain Rivera.
Rivera showed signs of impairment including slurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. She was asked to participate in standardized field sobriety exercises and refused, as well as refusing a breath test. A check of her driver’s license revealed 12 suspensions and a 60-month habitual driving offender status as of February of 2016. Rivera was placed under arrest on 2 counts of DUI, 7 counts of DUI property damage, 3 counts of hit and run property damage, 1 count of hit and run with bodily injury, 1 count of resisting an officer without violence, and 2 counts of driving on a suspended license (habitual). She was transported to the Lee County Jail.
