Cape Coral Police are investigating a serious injury crash that sent one to the hospital.
On May 22, 2019 around 6:39 am, Cape Coral Police responded to a call for service in reference to a one vehicle traffic crash at the 3300 block of SW 25th CT.
One person was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. A Major Crash Investigator, Victim Advocate, Forensics, and a Drug Recognition Expert responded to assist with this investigation. This investigation is ongoing.
The preliminary synopsis of the Major Crash Investigator is below:
ASSIGNED MCI: Officer Danny Gray
VEHICLE 1: Blue 2017 Lexus RX350 SUV, Florida.
DRIVER 1: A 74-year-old W/M, of Cape Coral.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Suffered life threatening injuries in the crash.
Vehicle 1 was initially parked in the garage of the residence. The driver of Vehicle 1 began to back out of the garage but stopped halfway out, then pulled back into the garage for an unknown reason and stopped momentarily. The driver of Vehicle 1 may have been attempting to exit the driver’s door of Vehicle 1, but had placed the vehicle’s gear into reverse rather than park.
As the driver exited the driver’s door, and his foot came off the brake pedal, Vehicle 1 began to roll backward out of the garage. The open driver’s door swept the driver backward and pinned him against the edge of the open garage door frame.
The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered serious life-threatening injuries in the crash and was trauma alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital where he is currently in a critical condition.
MCI Ofc D. Gray and DRE Sgt H. Causer responded. CCPD Forensic Technician L. Lansky also responded.
Alcohol/drugs ARE AN UKNOWN factor in the traffic crash. Next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.
