On May 3, 2019, around 6:25 AM, Cape Coral Police responded to a call for service in reference to a vehicle versus pedestrian hit-and-run traffic crash at Cape Coral Pkwy E and Coronado Pkwy.

Vehicle 1 was traveling westbound on Cape Coral Pkwy E in the outside straight lane approaching the intersection with Coronado Pkwy. Pedestrian Gregory Moore was walking north across the westbound lanes of Cape Coral Pkwy E approximately 100 feet east of the intersection with Coronado Pkwy and NOT in a marked crosswalk. Vehicle 1 collided with Moore. Vehicle 1 failed to stop at the scene and continued driving westbound on Cape Coral Pkwy E. Moore suffered fatal injuries as a result of the traffic crash.

Vehicle 1 driver was later identified as, Brian Michael Ryerson (W/M, DOB: 07/27/1972, 1734 Cape Coral Pkwy) during the course of the investigation. The vehicle was seized as evidence and currently is in the custody of the Cape Coral Police Department.

The original release can be located here.

A check of Ryerson’s drivers license revealed that it was not valid at the time of the crash; 108 suspensions, mostly for toll violations.

Officer Danny Gray, the Traffic Homicide Investigator, detailed investigation revealed that on May 3, 2019, at approximately 6:23 am, Brian Ryerson was the driver of a white 2005 Lincoln Navigator, which is registered to another person, traveling westbound on Cape Coral Pkwy E approaching the intersection with Coronado Pkwy, when it collided with the pedestrian Gregory Moore who died as a result of his injuries.

After colliding with the pedestrian, Ryerson failed to stop at the scene or provide aid to the victim, nor his identifying information and proceeded to pick up a co-worker. After dropping off the co-worker, Ryerson recognized there was blood on the exterior of the vehicle and intentionally wiped down the specific area of the vehicle that collided with the pedestrian in an effort to conceal the blood.

Ryerson then proceeded to his place of work and failed to contact the police until approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes later. Ryerson had a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the traffic crash; his minor child.

After this extensive investigation, on May 16, 2019, Traffic Homicide Investigator Officer Danny Gray developed probable cause to arrest Ryerson. Cape Coral Police located Ryerson at 2221 NW 2nd PL and he was arrested.

Ryerson was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Traffic Crash Involving a Death, Driving While License Suspended with a Death, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

Ryerson was later transferred to the Lee County Jail.
