Arrest Made In Shooting

On April 6, 2019, around 10:08 pm, Cape Coral Police responded to a call for service at 421 NW 17th Place in reference to a shooting.

The reporting person explained that the suspect, Shawn Alan Roberts-Pugh (W/M, DOB: 06/02/1994, 1804 NW Juanita PL), was known to him due to being a former coworker. The reporting person said that Roberts-Pugh has been showing up to his house being a nuisance by blasting his music and doing burnouts with his truck.  The reporting person and Roberts-Pugh were friends until Roberts-Pugh was fired from the company for which they both worked.

On the night of the shooting, the reporting person heard loud music and bass which caused him to go outside to the garage. The reporting person saw Roberts-Pugh’s black GMC Denali truck drive by his residence and stop at the corner of NW 18th Ave and NW 4th Ter.

The reporting person’s brother-in-law came out with a rifle and pointed a red laser at Roberts-Pugh. Roberts-Pugh got out of the truck and pointed a green laser at the reporting person on his chest in a laser tag type incident.  Roberts-Pugh then got back into the truck and sped off. As the truck continued northbound, Roberts-Pugh fired multiple shots from a handgun and sped away. The reporting person recorded the entire incident on his cell phone.

As Cape Coral Police were responding to the scene, a patrol officer located a GMC Denali truck that matched the description given by the reporting person. The officer turned around in an attempt to catch up and attempted to stop the truck. Roberts-Pugh increased speed, turned off all of its lights and continued through a solid red light. A perimeter was set up, but patrol officers were unable to locate the truck at that time.

Detective Jason Hicks of the Major Crimes Unit responded and took over the investigation. During a canvas of the area, two .40 caliber S&W shell casings were found along the west side of the roadway.

The GMC was located in a business parking lot, located at 125 SW 3rd Place. The truck was backed into a parking spot and was unoccupied.  Two more .40 caliber S&W shell casings were located on the driver’s side floorboard.

Detective Hicks gained evidence through his investigative techniques for the arrest of Roberts-Pugh. On April 25, 2019, Detective Hicks spoke with Roberts-Pugh over the phone and he agreed to come to the Cape Coral Police Department where he was later arrested.

Roberts-Pugh was charged with Discharge a Firearm from a Vehicle and Flee and Elude with Disregard of Safety to Persons/Property and later transferred to Lee County Jail.
