A late evening traffic crash snarled traffic on Chiquita Boulevard, and sadly resulted in the first Cape Coral traffic fatality of 2019.
Cape Coral Police patrol officers responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash at the 3300 block of Chiquita Boulevard South. Due to the severity of the crash the roadway was shut down and a Ping4alert was issued warning drivers in the area. CCPD Major Crash Investigators, Forensics, and a Victim’s Advocate were all summoned to the scene. Below is the report from the Major Crash Investigator:

VEHICLE 1: 2001 blue Toyota Corolla 4-door, FL tag.
DRIVER 1: Charles Yves, B/M, DOB: 3-19-49, of Cape Coral FL.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Yves suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
VEHICLE 2: 2019 black Subaru Ascent SUV, FL tag.
DRIVER 2: Michael Grisanti, W/M, DOB: 4-13-82, of Fort Myers FL.
DRIVER 2 INJURIES: Grisanti was not injured in the crash.
SYNOPSIS:
Vehicle 1 was traveling northbound in the inside lane of Chiquita Boulevard South in the 3400 block. Vehicle 1 left the roadway to the left, traveling into the grassy median. Vehicle 1 then struck multiple construction signs and a posted directional sign across several sections of median. Vehicle 1 then entered the southbound inside travel lane, still traveling northbound. Vehicle 2 was traveling southbound in the center travel lane of Chiquita Boulevard South in the 3300 block. The front of Vehicle 1 then struck the front of Vehicle 2, causing both vehicles to rotate. Vehicle 1 came to rest facing west, partially in the outside southbound right turn lane and partially on the sidewalk. Vehicle 2 came to rest facing northwest in the inside southbound travel lane.
The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The driver of Vehicle 2 was not injured.
MCI C. Mills and MCI D. Gray responded to the scene. DRE Sgt. Carson, Forensics, and a Victim’s Advocate also responded.
Alcohol/drugs ARE NOT a factor in this traffic crash. Next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.
