On December 18, 2018, around 6:00 PM, Cape Coral Police responded to 1619 Del Prado Boulevard South (Walmart Supercenter) in reference to
Dennis Michael Aigotti (W/M, DOB: 06/06/1967, transient) purchased a 32” Sharp television paying with two $50 bills and two $20 bills. A Loss Prevention employee used a “money pen” to check the authenticity of the bills Aigotti just used and was able to determine they were counterfeit. The LP employee also immediately recognized the currency as counterfeit due to the look and feel of the bills. The Walmart Loss Prevention employee and a Cape Coral Police Officer detained Aigotti at the front of the store.
Cape Coral Police Detective Josh Silko, who is currently assigned to the United States Secret Service Task Force and has training and experience in the detection of counterfeit currency, was contacted and went to Walmart to assist with the investigation. Detective Silko confirmed that the bills used by Aigotti did not have the security features commonly found on United States currency.
A search of Aigotti revealed he had an additional six counterfeit bills in his possession; one $50 bill, three $20 bills, one $10 bill, and one $5 bill. The counterfeit bills used to purchase the television at Walmart along with the additional counterfeit bills in Aigotti’s possession were collected and later placed into evidence.
Aigotti was charged with Utter False Bank Bill and Possession of 10 or more Counterfeit Bills and later transferred to Lee County Jail.
