UPDATE: Purse Thief Caught with Help from the Community

On November 29, 2018, around 3:39 PM, Cape Coral Police responded to a call for service in reference to a theft at the Publix located at 1735 NE Pine Island RD. The 75-year-old victim stated that she accidentally left her purse in a cart as she went out to her car. Once she realized she forgot her purse she immediately went back into Publix to retrieve it but found the cart and purse were gone.

Publix video surveillance showed the below female enter the store, see the cart with the purse and take it inside. The Cape Coral Police Department released still pictures from the video surveillance in a News Release and Social Media.

The original release can be found here.

Numerous tips came through Cape Coral Police Department’s Social Media, the tip line, and Crimestoppers identifying the suspect as Jean Lauren Juliano (W/F, DOB: 12/28/1980, of 2122 SW 40th ST).

On December 6, 2018, Cape Coral Police Department Property Crimes Unit Detective Jeremy Niland made contact with Juliano at the 1800-block of NE Pine Island Rd. Juliano was arrested based on evidence from the surveillance video and through Detective Niland’s investigation.

Juliano was charged with Grand Theft and later transferred to the Lee County Jail.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the great partnership that we have with the community. This is the second arrest in two days that were in big part to tips sent in identifying the suspects. These effective partnerships between law enforcement and our community are essential to public safety.
