Man Dances in Fire and Assaults Officers

Man burns himself while dancing in a fire while speaking gibberish, then assaults officers who tried to rescue him.

On June 22nd at approximately 1:30 am, officers responded to a call of a disturbance at 1335 NE Pine Island Lane involving a man with a knife trying to set a vehicle on fire. The male had also thrown a rock through a window of an occupied home.

Upon arrival of the Patrol Officers, John Hennessey (W/M DOB: 11/12/1990 of Cape Coral) was in the front yard completely naked and holding a knife. Hennessey was chanting and dancing around a fire. At one point Hennessey actually stood in the fire while chanting gibberish. Hennessey dropped the knife and grabbed a large wooden stick and started swinging it around at officers. Officers deployed a TASER and were finally able to secure Hennessey in handcuffs while he was still chanting in an unknown language. It was later learned that Hennessey had possibly consumed psychedelic mushrooms.

John Hennessey was placed under arrest for two counts of aggravated assault, criminal mischief, and four counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement officer. He was transported by Lee County EMS to a local hospital for treatment and later transferred to Lee County Jail.
