The 2017 American Sand Sculpting Championship

The white sand of Ft. Myers Beach is home to Florida’s largest sand sculpting contest. Each November, sculptors from around the world gather at the Wyndham Hotel to create their masterpieces in what USA Today and CNN Travel have named a “Must See,” and one of the “10 Best sand sculpting competitions in the world.”

The 2017 American Sand Sculpting Championship took place November 17-26 with over 50,000 people in attendance.

With trowels and spray bottles in hand, the sculptors transform more than 1,000 tons of sand into creations including sandcastles, elephants, intricate faces, and pyramids.

Sculptors compete in the Master Solo Division, Master Double Division and Advanced Amateur Competition. The singles compete the first week, followed by the doubles and Advanced Amateur Florida State Championships.

The Competition runs 10 days, concluding with the awards ceremony.

In addition to the sand sculptures, the event showcases music, art, food and activities geared for the whole family.

The Kid Zone features activities included a climbing wall, bungee trampoline, and human bubble balls.

Sand Vendor Village offers plenty of opportunities for shopping with over 50 vendors.

If you missed the event this year, plan to bring your flip flops, sunscreen and family to Ft. Myers Beach next November for the 32nd Annual Sand Sculpting Competition.
