Flooding UPDATE August 27, 2017 at 10:30 AM on August 27, 2017

Cape Coral Police Department and Cape Coral Fire Department have been working around the clock to insure the safety of all our citizens.

They are reporting no major life-safety incidents or major property damage incidents as a result of the ongoing flooding we are experiencing.  Cape Coral received more rain overnight than was initially forecast.

Widespread surface street flooding will continue today. If you MUST drive, please allow for extra time and expect delays. The general warnings we issued yesterday still apply:

  • Residents are urged to avoid contact with the water. Flood waters can contain bacteria, parasites, stinging and biting insects, venomous reptiles, and toxic chemicals.
  • Barricades have been deployed at some of the most flooded areas. DO NOT drive around these barricades. It only takes 12 inches of water to float an average sized car, or the roadway underneath may be washed away.  Residents are urged to avoid driving if they can.

WEATHER:

NWS expects 5-6” of rain through Monday afternoon.  We are keeping an eye on the RADAR, and expect some heavier rains to come through Cape Coral later today.

MAJOR INTERSECTIONS CLOSED:

  • Chiquita Boulevard/Trafalgar Parkway
  • Skyline Boulevard/Trafalgar Parkway
  • Santa Barbara Boulevard /Pine Island Road

ROAD AND INFRASTRUCTURE:

  • Sinkhole repair on Mohawk is holding.
  • Numerous potholes are being reported citywide.  These are large and deep, posing a hazard to vehicles.
  • Crews are monitoring water flow in the canal system and are keeping the weirs clear of debris.

We will post updates as new information becomes available.  The next scheduled update is 12:30 PM.
