Cape Police Make Arrest in July 4th Aggravated Assault, Battery and Shots Fired Call

Cape Coral Police detectives have made an arrest stemming from a shots fired call at a 4th of July party that resulted in an aggravated assault and battery.

Just after midnight on July 5, 2017, Cape Coral Police patrol officers responded to a “shots fired” call at a house party located at the 2300 block of SW 40th Street. The victim stated he had heard several rounds go off in front of the residence and saw Cedrick Thompson (DOB: 12-19-98) holding a chrome firearm. Additional anonymous callers had reported seeing rounds being shot into the air. After the shots were fired, the victim confronted Thompson for flirting with the victim’s girlfriend. He was then punched and kicked several times by Thompson and his friends, and as he was attempting to leave, Thompson pointed the firearm at him and threatened to shoot him. Several .45 caliber and .40 caliber shell casings were found at the scene and submitted into evidence.

After investigative work to identify Thompson, Detective Hicks established probable cause for his arrest. On 8-11-17 Detective Fordham located Thompson and arrested him. Detective Hicks charged Thompson with aggravated assault (2 counts), battery and firing a weapon in public. Detective Hicks also obtained a search warrant for Thompson’s residence and found the firearm used in the crime.

Thompson was transported to the Lee County Jail.
