Thanks for participating in Healthy Lee’s 5210 Pledge!
This month the 5210 Pledge focuses on getting one hour or more of physical activity every day. Try incorporating daily walking breaks into your work day or adding a nightly walk to your family’s daily routine.
Don’t forget to encourage your family and friends to take the 5210 Pledge! It’s not too late to commit to healthy habits and Healthy Lee will show you how to make it a part of your lifestyle!
Sitting is the New Smoking
Research has linked sitting for long periods of time with a number of health concerns, including obesity and metabolic syndrome — a cluster of conditions that includes increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist and abnormal cholesterol levels. Any extended sitting — such as behind a desk at work or behind the wheel — can be harmful. The solution seems to be less sitting and more moving overall. You might start by simply standing rather than sitting whenever you have the chance or think about ways to walk while you work.
As we spend more time outside this summer, it is important to protect you and your loved ones from mosquitoes. Keep you and your family safe from mosquito bites by limiting exposure through:
Avoiding outdoor activities when they’re most active, dusk to dawn
Repairing any tears in the screens on your windows, doors and camping gear
Using mosquito netting over strollers and cribs or when sleeping outdoors
