Do The Right Thing for December 2016

Twelve Cape Coral students were recognized yesterday at the December “Do The Right Thing” awards.  We congratulate all the parents for raising such great kids, and we congratulate all the kids for being such an asset to our community!

Kailani Delisle – 11th Grade                    Mariner High School

Kailani took it upon herself to provide important information to school administration which could have potentially saved another student’s life. She missed class work with school officials to ensure student safety.

Trey Feltner – 5th Grade                        Caloosa Elementary School

Trey, a 5th grader, helps a kindergarten teacher with her class every day.  He helps the students in the cafeteria as well as the classroom. Trey reads to the students and helps the students get settled for the teacher, and the students look forward to Trey coming to help.  He has stepped up to the challenge of working with 22 kindergarten students.

Tyton Hayes – 6th Grade                             Caloosa Middle School

On the way to school, Tyton witnessed another student crash his bike.  Tyton and his mom stopped and helped the boy to school to get medical attention.  They also secured his bike.

Christopher Leon – 4th Grade                    Caloosa Elementary School

Christopher was in the pool with his cousins. His 4 year old cousin took off her life vest without anyone noticing and immediately slipped under the water. Christopher noticed and quickly swam to her rescue. He kept her from sinking and brought her out of the pool. Thanks to Christopher, this family is happy and blessed to have their little girl safe and alive. His quick action saved her life.

Sheila Mae Nermal – 8th Grade                  Challenger Middle School

Sheila’s dad was dropping her off to the bus stop. Through her open window Sheila was able to hear a woman crying for help.  Upon hearing the cry for help, Sheila had her dad stop the car and they both assisted the woman.

Alexis Odiorne – 11th Grade                        Oasis High School

Alexis wanted to make sure the extra food remaining from her birthday party went to people who needed it.  She donated the extra food to the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen.

Brody Ryan – 4th Grade                             Christa McAuliffe Charter Elementary School
Bentley Ryan – Kindergarten                    Christa McAuliffe Charter Elementary School
Blake Ryan – 3rd Grade                              Christa McAuliffe Charter Elementary School

The Ryan bothers, Brody, Bentley and Blake learned that a fire at the Paradise Marina had destroyed Brooklyn’s supplies and earnings.  Brooklyn had been saving to pay for her trip to the Young Leadership Conference in Washington DC.  The boys pulled together and had a garage sale.  They gave Brooklyn the money from the garage sale earnings as well as from their personal savings.

Dominic Salerno – 1st Grade                     Hancock Creek Elementary School

Dominic noticed money on the sidewalk and turned the money in to a school official.

Luann Sharer – 4th Grade                         Cape Elementary School

During the “Salvation Army Food Drive” at the school, Luann, a 4th grader, donated over 1500 items.  Luann asked many of her family members and friends to donate to a great cause.  She also saved and clipped coupons and was able to purchase many items for the discounted rate.  She spent hours clipping, shopping and boxing up the 1500 items.  Her “salesman” attitude and great smile always make the people around her want to do more to support her cause.

Maison Wunderlich – 7th Grade                Challenger Middle School

Maison noticed that one of the substitute teachers had bumped her arm and was bleeding.  Maison immediately went to the clinic to get bandages to cover the wound.
